Burren Smokehouse

The Burren Smokehouse is a family-run business that was set up in 1989 by Birgitta & Peter Curtin.

Through researching the smoking traditions in Ireland and in Sweden, the idea of the Smokehouse was born. For over a century now, the Curtin family have owned the 'Roadside Tavern' nearby which was the first place where their own smoked salmon was served.

Situated in Lisdoonvarna, home of the world-famous ‘MatchMaker Festival’, the Smokehouse is only a short drive from Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher.
In existence, for 30 years the Burren Smokehouse offers a Tasting Room where you will learn about the secret of smoking salmon. The organic salmon is smoked in oak and it’s fragranced throughout the building from the moment you enter.

You can combine your visit to the Tasting Room with the “Taste the Atlantic – Salmon Experience” next door, or book a Masterclass or even a “VIP Meet the Maker” tour with the owners of the Burren Smokehouse and the Roadside Tavern. Guests can also discover mosaics inside and outside their shop highlighting the story of the "Salmon of Knowledge".
