Kick start your day with a visit to Limerick's most iconic landmark King John’s Castle. Over 800 years of history sits behind its walls! You can visit 3 areas of the castle: you can explore what castle life was like and living arrangements, the courtyard is home to the blacksmith’s workshop, siege shelters, remains of the Great Hall, chapel and access to the top of the castle where you can view the mighty River Shannon and take in breathtaking views of Limerick City. Pop into Katie Daly’s for lunch. It is adjacent to King John’s Castle so you do not have to go far for good food with inside and outside seating.
14.00pm - Saint Mary’s Cathedral
The Cathedral is one of the oldest buildings in Limerick and stands in the heart of Limerick's Medieval Quarter. Originally the Royal Palace for the Kings of Thomond it was gifted to the Church in 1168. The Cathedral stands majestically over the City of Limerick on the banks of the River Shannon. 19.00pm - Dinner in Harry’s on the River
After a day of exploring Limerick’s Medieval Quarter you have now built up an appetite so relax sit back and soak up the atmosphere in Harry’s on the River. Floor to ceiling windows gives you a perfect view of the meandering Abbey River along with the twinkling of the city lights reflected on the river. The menu is the best of local produce – try the homemade smoked fishcake to start and mains the slow braised Daube of Beef. All the beef served is 100% Irish.
